Occurrence of the parasites Giardia and Cryptosporidium in highly vulnerable spring catchment areas
Abstract:
In recent years drinking water-caused infections by the protozoan parasites Cryptosporidium and
Giardia occurred particularly in the anglo-saxon countries. As raw water in these cases surface water was used. Spring water from highly vulnerable, i. e. little protected karst and fissured aquifers, which as well is common in Baden-Wuerttemberg, has so far uncritically been put on the same level with surface water concerning the risk of a such pollution.
