The main topics of the department"s work and research are on the field of water resources management and rural planning.

The department exhibits about 25 years of experience of resource protection and groundwater protective land use. We developed and tested different measures to identify and to mitigate the entrance pathways different contaminants and how to remediate for example nitrate-polluted source waters either by means of action taken in the catchment areas or by developing or optimizing denitrification treatment technologies.

  • geohydrology of water systems (e.g. vulnerability assessment of aquifers, groundwater modelling)
  • hydrochemistry (impact of land use on groundwater quality during soil transport)
  • impact assessment (soil controls, leaching of nitrate and pesticides from agriculture, modelling of nitrate leaching)
