Abstract:
The use of sulphonylurea herbicides for pest management, e.g. as herbicides against weeds, has increased significantly in the last few years. Especially in the cultivation of grain, this development will accelerate in the future. Because of their high herbicidal efficiency the use of these active ingredients represents a clear cost reduction for agriculture.
In order to examine the fate of selected sulphonylurea herbicides under different boundary conditions combined laboratory and field-scale investigations were carried out. Three test sites with complex measuring instruments (precipitation gauges, lysimeters and soil water samplers) offered best conditions for an investigation of the herbicide transfer under field conditions. The fate of the chemicals have been observed during three periods of ground-water recharge under different site-specific and soil conditions.
Laboratory-scale experiments were carried out in a special laboratory-scale column plant. Several series of lab tests showed the influence of changing boundary conditions.
